Hold the Front Page

Nice surprise for a Sunday evening to see my latest image with the lovely Natalie had been featured on the Front Page of Purpleport :-)

For those not familiar with the site, Purpleport is a models, photographers and related creatives networking site with tens of thousands of members and every day literally thousands of images are uploaded.  To have an image selected for the front page is quite an achievement so I was delighted to see this:

Here’s a link to the original:

And by the end of the day it had been in the list of ‘most loved’ images too :-)

Mono Conversions

The example below show how much more effective a simple image can be with a monochrome conversion.

Hopefully by the wonders of modern science you should be able to move your mouse over the image below (grab and drag the little handle) and see a before/after example of the original image with nothing done to it (other than a slight crop), and then the ‘after’ image with a little TLC applied. What’s been done? Actually on this one not that much.

  • Cloned out the plastic bag
  • Converted to mono
  • Localised exposure adjustments to bring up some shadow detail

Move the slider to the left to reveal the ‘before’ image..

A few of the mono images from last weeks little shoot with the very lovely Emily

The title of the post? Well, that’s a reflection on the reaction I got from Emily when I mentioned chocolate.. ;-)

The Taxidermist’s Wife…

A little sneaky peak from an amazing shoot in a secret location in Gloucestershire with my favourite redhead, Emily T, aka ‘Gingerface’. More to come soon..

Fine Art Nudes Workshop

This week I’ve been secreted away in a local studio working with four fantastic models on a workshop with the Royal Photographic Society.

I’ve got a bit of a backlog of editing to do before I can sort out a full set from this event, but here’s one of  my favourites from Thursday. The delightful Miss Pixie

Once I’ve had a chance to edit some more I’ll add a gallery, but in the meantime you’ll find a few more from this shoot on my Purple Port profile..

Strobe vs Constant Lighting Event

Had an interesting day of networking, experimenting and generally nerding around with expensive lighting tech in Bristol yesterday with the multi-talented Dave Kai-Piper and the lovely Ms Chloe-Jasmine Whichello.  The even was hosted by our good friend James Madelin of Enlight Photo, inventor of the amazing Orbis Ring Flash.

We spent most of the morning discussing the various merits of different types of lighting, from the obvious natural light opportunities, through small speedlights, portable strobes, constant lighting etc.  Along the way we touched on some of the more recent innovations such as small daylight balanced video lights and some of the higher end solutions such as the amazing Westcott ICE Light.  Here’s Dave demonstrating the Westcott ICE light to add a little daylight-balanced fill –>

Here’s an image I shot of the lovely Ms Whichello:

Wedding Belles – Jodie

Had a fun day out assisting my friend James with a wedding-themed shoot for his portfolio.  It wasn’t really my shoot, so I was mainly there to support and encourage James, but he was kind enough to allow me to shoot a few snaps of my own too.

Our ‘bride’ for the day was the beautiful Jodie Woodward who was an absolute natural and a pleasure to shoot.

Thanks to Matthew Thomas Gibson for the use of his salon and the very lovely Robyn Stokes for the styling!

Hats off to the terribly clever James Madelin too as the only lighting in this shot was his amazing invention the Orbis Ring Flash :-)

Merry Christmas!
